I've been a Premium member for a long time but just today I thought I should try to figure out what aspects of my deviantART space is customizable. With my Wordpress blog, it's completely simple. On the Dashboard I click on Appearance/ Custom Design/ Edit CSS. You can view the original CSS side by side while you're working so that you can immediately see the names of the Divs, classes, IDs, etc. Nothing could be more simple.
But tell me people, I've been digging around for more than an hour here on DeviantART and have browsed the forums, looked at groups offering skins, etc. But there seems to be no step by step instruction (at least I didn't find any in my search) that tells members how to access the CSS, what Divs are customizable, how to add the revised CSS, etc. I found a lot of helpful groups and forums on how to code CSS, but didn't find anything on how to access and alter the existing code. I even did a google search and a YouTube search and found very little. Did I miss something?
I'm wondering if only the journal page can be customized with CSS? Or can the profile page also be altered, other than just adding and rearranging various widgets. If anyone can enlighten me I will be deeply grateful to the max.
Cheers!
p.s. After writing this entry, after much searching, I stumbled across this article
[link] that gives the names of the div classes used within the deviantArt journal html. I am still gobsmacked at how complicated it is to change the CSS here on deviantArt. They should take a look at the Wordpress site and implement something similar to their customization interface. ... but ok, I've now figured out the main divs. Victory at last! (I'll spend more time later fine tuning the design, today was just a quick & dirty slap down of a header, footer and background color).
